Wedding Photography at the Estancia in La Jolla, Ca

What a gorgeous wedding at the Estancia in La Jolla! Everything at the Estancia was picture perfect. The landscaping, ceremony setup, reception room, food, and music everything was top-notch. Kevin and Kristine’s wedding day went smooth as butter thanks to Merilee and her crew at Ever After Events. I've never seen a couple on their wedding day that relaxed. Don't get me wrong they were very excited to be wed, but I didn't sense any anxiety or nervousness at all. I credit this to having a wedding coordinator, and brides you cant go wrong with Merilee at Ever After Events.

I am really excited about some of the wedding photographs I captured of Kevin and Kristine. We started with photographs of the bride getting ready in the Estancia’s Bridal Suite. I bounced back and forth from there to the groom’s room. I then got to capture a wonderful “First Sight” moment, where the bride and groom got to see each other for the first time before the ceremony. I love the light in this hallway at the Estancia.

We then captured all of the Bridal and Family portraits before the ceremony so that Kevin and Kristine could enjoy cocktail hour with all of their family that flew in all the way from Ireland! It was a real pleasure getting to capture all of these memories. Everyone was real comfortable in front of the camera, especially Kevin and Kristine. High School Senior Photography, Valley Center CA

Shooting David's high school senior photos was a real honor. This guy is has a very bright future, he loves Jesus, and is cool like fire!

So we started out the Senior Photography shoot at Adam's Park in Valley Center. Since we have known each other for years because we both attend the same community church, the shoot was pretty relaxed. David was patient, open to any ideas I had, and really let me get creative with his Senior Photos.

   

After the shots under the oak and pepper trees at Adam's Park, we headed over to some country roads near Bates Nut Farm, or Nates Butt Farm like my wife likes to call it!!! We found an awesome spot with good light and great Valley Center backgrounds. But the shot I had visualized in my head, had David standing in the middle of the road :(. Sometimes this type of stuff doesn’t fly with me or the client. But David... no problamo, he watched my back while I watched his back, and we both listened for cars while I aimed for the shot I had envisioned.   This was my first time shooting some Senior Photography, and it was a lot of fun. The combination of the rural setting and a cool High School senior really made it a fun project. I hope to have more opportunities like this in the future, cause after shooting this senior session I thought of some other creative shots I want to capture on an old Valley Center dirt road.

Janis and Bill's Wedding at the Morey Mansion

This wedding was a real treat to photograph. Janis and Bill had an intimate ceremony featuring live acoustic music. Everyone gathered into a small garden and witnessed Janis and Bill exchange vows. There were no high tech mics or sound system, and I believe this was fitting and went along with the classic theme they had going at the Morey Mansion.

The Morey Mansion, a Victorian style venue, had a genuine classic feel and ambiance. The interior of it was packed with historical artifacts and unique details, which gave evidence to the time period it was built (1890s). The ceilings were my favorite part as they were completely covered with colorful intricate detail. This inspired an idea that I would like to use once when Rachael and I have our own home. Utilizing the ceiling for art! How fun this would be for kids, when they lie on the floor and stare at the ceiling, the décor could help trigger their imaginations to run wild!

Back to the wedding… For the wedding photography, we used the whole location. Shots before the wedding were shot inside and outside, and after the wedding I captured shots of just Bill and Janis walking around the grounds at the Mansion. We tried to get creative and went with any ideas that sounded fun. At one point Janis needed some time to adjust her hair/makeup, so she handed Bill her bouquet and stepped aside. I told Bill to smile and kept shooting! In the end, the heart of the wedding was about Bill and Janis coming together to spend the rest of their lives together. From the genuine smiles I captured throughout the day, I believe its easy to see that they have a great life ahead of them!

Backpacking in the Eastern Sierra Mountains (Free iPhone Wallpapers)

This photographic adventure was tough, but well worth it, as evident from the awesome photo opportunities. The hike starting in Bishop, Ca took us uphill through Piute’s Pass and over a Glacier at 11,400 ft elevation. It was interesting to see what can live up there, and what doesn’t. For example, there were lots of mosquitoes and fish, but no bears. We caught golden trout, brooke trout,  and rainbow trout. The trout that we ate for dinner one night were rainbow trout, yum! 

I had a blast capturing images of this breath-taking landscape. The water was amazingly clear, and the taste of it was so pristine. I love photographing water, it allows for unlimited creativity with the reflections and movement of it in streams and waterfalls. I also like how slightly changing your angle of view or shutter speed can yield a completely different image. My favorite shots are usually from very low angles, involving me laying with my face on the ground or standing in a stream with the tripod getting a little wet.

I hauled all of my photo gear up there, including my Canon 50D, Tamron 17-55mm and 4 lb Manfrotto Tripod, as I intended to get some use out of them. As everyone else fished, I was looking for fine art images, and I think I captured a few. By the way, feel free to leave comments if you like any of them. Gear-wise everything went great, nothing broke and 2 batteries were plenty of Juice for five days in the backcountry. At the end of the trip I had used 8GB of memory.

On this trip I experimented with using the HDR (High Dynamic Range) technique, which allows the photographer to create images that display a tonal range of light that more closely mimics what the human eye can see. Getting these types of photos involves taking multiple exposures (usually three) and then combining them on the computer. I used a combination of Photoshop CS3 and Photomatix softwares. The multiple exposures help to capture more detail in the darks, lights and midtones.

  Getting to experience this beautiful landscape was a very spiritual experience for me. If I had to choose a soundtrack for these photos I would use “Indescribable” by Chris Tomlin. Everything is so well designed out here, it is impossible for me to believe that this all happened by chance (macro evolution). As an engineer I know a little something about ‘DESIGN’, and this thing we call nature was definitely designed, and designed well. Thanks to God for showing us a small minutia of His infinite glory!
